"Belt and Road" International Convention & Exhibition City Master Plan and Urban Design
The Xining International Convention & Exhibition City is a flagship urban design project located in the Nanchuan District of Xining, covering an area of 226 hectares. Positioned between the city center and Ta'er Monastery, the site serves as both a strategic gateway and a cultural-tourism hub for the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau.
The project aims to integrate culture, tourism, trade, and exhibitions into Xining's broader development strategy, supporting the city's role in the Belt and Road Initiative. By leveraging its unique location, ecological resources, and multi-ethnic cultural heritage, the district is envisioned as:
A Belt and Road Trade Node – linking domestic and international markets, strengthening exchange with Central and South Asia.
Qinghai's Convention Economy Hub – with large-scale exhibition, trade, and service facilities to elevate regional competitiveness.
Xining's All-Season Tourism Destination – enhancing the cultural landscape and creating a year-round leisure and tourism economy.
The development strategy follows the principle of "Exhibition-led, Trade-focused, Culture-enhanced, and Tourism-driven", creating a synergistic urban complex that unites industry, ecology, and community life. Ultimately, the project will establish a new growth pole for Xining, positioning it as a vibrant international platform for exhibitions, business, culture, and tourism on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau.
